My Parents

The painting I recreated was based on David Hockney's "My parents," a beautiful and heartfelt portrayal of the artist's parents. For my version, I used vector shapes to create a new scene in which the father is seated in a wheelchair and the mother is connected to an IV. I was inspired to create this piece as a way to pay homage to Hockney's original while also exploring themes of aging and illness.

Using vector shapes allowed me to capture the basic forms of the original painting while also adding new elements to the scene. I felt that the addition of the wheelchair and IV brought a new layer of complexity and emotion to the piece. My hope was to create a work that honored the original painting while also adding something new to the conversation.
